The clients chose the
following materials for
their new kitchen:
1. Birch cabinetry
painted Sunlight Yellow
with brown glaze was
selected for the
perimeter. Then, to
match the built-ins in
the adjacent family
room, the island and
desk would be stained a
dark cherry finish with
black glaze. This would
provide added interest
as well as beautiful
contrast.
2. A variety of wood
and granite materials
were chosen for the
countertops. One
section of a chopping
block on the island was
a European natural wood
called “Merbau.” The
desk was cherry and
stained to match the
island cabinetry.
3. Several of the major
appliances, including
the refrigerator, the
dishwasher, a warming
drawer, and the
undercounter
fridge/freezer unit,
would be integrated into
the room and cleverly
concealed with
decorative doors. The
oven and microwave would
get a new finish called
“Carbon.”
4. The lighting plan
introduces both task
lighting designed for
specific areas in the
kitchen, as well as
indirect lighting to
brighten up the entire
room. Also, the two
corner base cabinet
carousels would get
outfitted with pencil
thin “cathode” lights,
so that everything in
that corner unit is
illuminated when the
door is opened.
5. The existing natural
oak flooring needed a
little patching and a
new finish color.
6. The selected
backsplash tile from
Pratt & Larson was
custom colored. The
green in the deco pieces
complemented the granite
perfectly.
