During completion of
the
Design Survey,
Laurie took
measurements of the
clients’ kitchen,
documenting existing
layout conditions as
well as
architectural
details and
mechanical
specifications. In
addition, she and
the homeowners
discussed various
detailed elements of
the remodel, such
as:
1. How is existing
storage in the kitchen
being used?
2. Does your family need
additional storage
space? To store what?
3. What do you like and
dislike about your
current kitchen? How
can we make it more
user-friendly for
everyone?
4. How much additional
counter space do you
need?
5. Do you have specific
appliances and/or
materials in mind?
6. Removing the dining
room wall and expanding
the kitchen meant the
loss of the dog’s kennel
area, so something
clever would have to be
devised as far as how
and where the dog could
be kept for short
periods of time while
the family is out and
about.
7. The clients listed
the following
accommodations as
priorities:
-
an island with
seating
-
an undercounter
refrigerator/freezer
unit
-
base cabinet storage
for organizing the
kids’ school
materials
-
maintain the
desk/computer area
