FEATURED REMODELING PROJECT
We are excited to bring you the Wiese family kitchen remodeling project in progress, documenting each step in the process.

CLIENT INTRODUCTION

John and Barb Wiese are the owners of this unique prairie school style home built in 1963.  They are the third owners of this home and have lived here for 10 years with a toddler and the family dog.  The home was designed by Winslow Elliott Wedin, a prominent architect, and was designed for an artist owner, giving the home a feel of individuality, whimsy, and unrivaled architecture.

The Wiese family envisions a complete redesign of their home’s interior, allowing better traffic flow, updated style, and more functional use of their space.  When thinking of design options for their kitchen, the Wiese family identified the following priorities that need to be addressed in the remodel:

  1. The appliances and countertops are originals from when the home was built.  The owners would like updated appliances and modern materials for a more polished look.

  2. In addition to countertops being old, they do not allow for appropriate work space and are not very functional for what the homeowners need.

  3. Overall, the kitchen has very poor use of space and lacks the storage the owners desire.

  4. Traffic flow is a problem.  The front door of the house leads right into the kitchen, and directs traffic through an “alley” between a wall of appliances and a countertop workstation.

  5. The kitchen also has very poor lighting- both natural and artificial.  Poor lighting, combined with the dark wood and current design, make the kitchen very dark and uninviting.

ARCHITECTURE OF A REMODELING PROJECT

Let us introduce you to our “Architecture of A Remodeling Project” diagram.  Each step represents a key component of every Sawhill remodeling project.  The Wiese family project is in the “Remodel” stage and is very near completion!

To use the diagram, begin with the “Choosing a Kitchen Design Firm” box and work from left to right to follow the steps.  We are currently featuring the details of the “Remodel” stage of the Wiese project, but each box in the diagram has a link to a web page showing the details of past stages.  To review the history of the project, just click on the link in the box.

Be sure to check back often to watch the progress of the remodel and see updated photos of the project!
