Trend Watch:
Green Design
Green design is an earth-friendly concept that incorporates
natural products into the home. It’s also the latest trend in
kitchen design, as the materials used do more than help out
Mother Earth—they bring the beauty of nature into your world of
gadgets and gizmos!
Using formaldehyde-free materials like cork and bamboo in
flooring and French-quarried lavastone in countertops, green
design provides beautiful surfaces that release no toxic fumes
when produced. Furthermore, cabinets and veneers are made of
materials from sustainable forests to beautify the home without
wasting trees. Finally, to help conserve the green in your
wallet and save the environment at the same time, green design
calls for the use of energy efficient alternatives like
water-saving appliances and low-voltage lighting.
Sawhill’s designers recently used elements of green design in a
new kitchen for clients Parker Newcomb and Jamie Ramon. Newcomb
and Ramon’s award-winning kitchen is now home to beautiful
bamboo cabinetry and a unique island/breakfast bar combination
with bamboo and sliding glass doors. The design also features
floor-to-ceiling windows to allow for natural lighting and a
breath-taking view.
