Sawhill would like to welcome national award-winning designer Sarah Michalowski, CKD, to the Sawhill design team. Sarah comes to Sawhill from DeWitt Designer Kitchens of the greater Los Angeles area where she won three NKBA design awards at last year’s annual K/BIS event.
Sarah is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She holds degrees in Architecture, Interior Design, and Sculptural Art, and she loves getting creative in the kitchen—whether cooking, designing, or both! And she has even worked as a movie set designer!
Sarah recently won 3 awards in the 2007 NKBA Design contest, and 1 in the 2008 contest. Stop by the Sawhill showroom to see Sarah’s complete portfolio of awesome award-winning designs that Sarah did with DeWitt back in Cali. Welcome aboard, Sarah… we’re so lucky to have you on our team!

"The Detailer" gets certified

Sawhill designer Eugene SongWon recently obtained the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s AKBD accreditation, making her Sawhill’s first Certified Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer.
Eugene, otherwise known as “The Detailer,” is our AutoCad Design Specialist. She works alongside our designers to ensure that everything gets done with precision. When not working, Eugene likes to swim and play golf.

   Trend Watch: Green Design
Green design is an earth-friendly concept that incorporates natural products into the home. It’s also the latest trend in kitchen design, as the materials used do more than help out Mother Earth—they bring the beauty of nature into your world of gadgets and gizmos!

Using formaldehyde-free materials like cork and bamboo in flooring and French-quarried lavastone in countertops, green design provides beautiful surfaces that release no toxic fumes when produced. Furthermore, cabinets and veneers are made of materials from sustainable forests to beautify the home without wasting trees. Finally, to help conserve the green in your wallet and save the environment at the same time, green design calls for the use of energy efficient alternatives like water-saving appliances and low-voltage lighting.

Sawhill’s designers recently used elements of green design in a new kitchen for clients Parker Newcomb and Jamie Ramon. Newcomb and Ramon’s award-winning kitchen is now home to beautiful bamboo cabinetry and a unique island/breakfast bar combination with bamboo and sliding glass doors. The design also features floor-to-ceiling windows to allow for natural lighting and a breath-taking view.
